The Avengers

The Avengers (2012) Poster

When global security is threatened by Loki and his alien army, Nick Fury (the director of S.H.I.E.L.D) will need all the help he can get to save the world from disaster. In a last hope operation he implements Project Avengers. The project requires that he assemble a team of super heroes; who are willing and not so willing to give his/her help.

In joining forces with Tony Stark (Iron Man), Steve Rogers (Captain America), Bruce Banner (The Hulk) Thor, Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) and Clint Barton (Hawkeye); Nick puts his own personal faith, as well as the hope and safety of the world in the team of “misfits” he has gathered.

At first the team contently butts head with each other and just can't seem to get along. At one point in the movie they all get into a heated argument and Bruce said to the others "We're not a team. We're a walking time bomb." After this Loki makes them doubt themselves and scatters them around, but then when all seem lost; the team comes together in a last effort to stop Loki and the alien invasion.

This is one of my favourite movies of all time. I enjoyed the story and the actors and actress who play the characters. I thought that the whole concept of doing the characters individual movies first and then tying them together in a final film was amazing. I also thought that the casting was perfect. I loved how every actor/actress practically became one with their character, as it gave the audiences much more of a realistic and raw emotion display. The movie won “Movie of the Year” at the MTV Movie Awards 2013 for many reasons. Some being (according to me) would be the acting, special effects, the and almost accurate comic adaptation, which contributed to happy fans, in turn lead to the film wining “Movie of the Year”.

The Lion King

Now lets take at a look at an old classic Disney movie; The Lion King. The Lion King was by far my favourite Disney movie as a child. I was taken in by the story of a young lion prince named, Simba and his life experiences from childhood into adulthood. In the movie Simba's goes through may hardships. Such as his father, King Mufasa, dying before him after he is save from a spampede of wildebeest. Because Simba survives; Scar (Simba's Uncle) implies that the stampede was Simba's fault and that the pride will blame him for his father death. In unbearable guilt Simba flees the Pride Lands (his home) meaning never to return. He later meet Timon (the Meerkat) and Pumbaa (the Warthog) after collapsing in the desert. The three of them become friends fast; as they all seen as outcast or runaways. Simba stays with them till he reaches adulthood. But one day his childhood friend, Nala (a lioness), is out hunting beyond the Pride Lands stumbles upon Simba and his friends. Astonished to find him alive, she begs him to return to the home, where Scar has reigned as King for years, and has destroyed the once beautiful Pride Lands. Reluctant at first, Simba eventually agrees to fight Scar for his kingdom. When Simba arrives he is devastated at sight he sees before him. The once lush land is now a barren wasteland on the verge of becoming inhabitable. As Simba battles Scar, and learns that his father's death was Scar's fault, not his own. Enrage at the thought Simba violently attacks him and kills him (we are lead to believe). Simba emerge victories and takes his fathers place as rightful king.

I have seen this movie so many times I probably could recite it. I found it the movie fascinating as a child and still do to this day. It is something that has become a part of who I am today. It's helped to shape my morals and values that I have today. It taught me that it we can't live in the past forever and that we have to move on. Even though the pain will never leave us we can slow heal with the help of friends and family.

Some of my favourite quotes from the movie would have to be...

"Ah yes, the past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it."- Rafiki

" Never forget who you are" - Mufasa

"You got to put your past behind you" - Timon

"I'm only brave when I have to. Being brave doesn't mean looking for trouble."-Mufasa

"Hakuna Matata. It means no worries"- Timon and Pumbaa

ELYSIUM

Summary: In the year 2154, the very wealthy live on a man-made space station called Elysium while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max, an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission that could save his life and the lives of millions on Earth.

Starring: Alice Braga, Jodie Foster, Matt Damon, and Sharlto Copley

I went to the theatre with a friend Tuesday, and saw the movie for the first time. I have to say that it met my expectations; for all hype that was given to it. It made $30.5 million domestic ticket sales on opening weekend but its hope was it to make $35 to $40 million. It fell short of the 5 million to make its goal. However, the general opinion about the movie is that writer-director Neill Blomlamp did a fantastic job making another science-fiction fable of the future and mankind's darkness and hope (after his Best Picture-nominated District 9, that was releases in 2009.)

I truly enjoyed the movie and would definitely recommend to anyone would loves action and science-fiction. It is a much see before the summer's end.
